Check out the J. Polk Currin — Slabtown interpretive sign at the Swinging Bridge on River Road, which was unveiled in October 2022. CGGS member Dana Merryday spearheaded this project, which was funded through the Rotary Club of Cottage Grove. According to Dana, who was instrumental in the rebuilding of the Swinging Bridge in 2019, a history kiosk was part of the vision when the Swinging Bridge was rebuilt in 2019 to research and present the history of the Bridge, James Knox Polk Currin, and the then commercial district of Cottage Grove known as “Slabtown.”
